Refugee and immigrant farmers in Vermont

Refugee and immigrant farmers newly arrived in Vermont are getting assist from USDA to proceed their agrarian traditions and study Vermont soils and rising circumstances.

In 2020, USDA awarded roughly $4.1 million in grants and cooperative agreements by its new Office of Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production. The Association of Africans Living in Vermont (AALV) obtained a grant to reinforce city agriculture by AALV’s refugee and immigrant agriculture program. New Farms for New Americans: Improving Lands, Improving Lives was applied in 2020 and at present offers 90 backyard plots to roughly 80 households on seven acres of leased land in Burlington, Vermont.
