Navneet Rana, husband Ravi Rana sent to 14-day judicial custody amid row over Hanuman Chalisa


Amravati MP Navneet Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana had been sent to the 14-day judicial custody by Mumbai’s Bandra Magistrate’s Court on Sunday, hours after they had been arrested for inflicting unrest following the announcement that they may recite Hanuman Chalisa exterior Uddhav Thackeray’s residence ‘Matoshree, reported ANI.

“Amravati MP Naveneet Rana & husband MLA Ravi Rana sent to 14-days of judicial custody by Bandra Magistrate’s Court,” ANI tweeted.

A bail listening to might be held on April 29. The couple can file a bail plea by April 27, added the courtroom.

The political duo was arrested on Saturday and an FIR underneath 153A, 35, 37, 135 sections of the Bombay Police Act have been filed in opposition to Navneet Kaur Rana and Ravi Rana.

Navneet and Ravi are each being represented by advocate Rizwan Merchant, who has represented Sanjay Dutt prior to now.

Calling the Rana couple’s arrest unlawful, Merchant added, “Both of them were locked inside their house, honouring section 149 notice. So, the arrest is absolutely illegal. As per my instruction to my client, a complaint has been registered against those who tried to attack outside their residence.”
